A hard fought home game v Pentyrch

Treharris Phoenix RFC 29 Pentyrch RFC 13

Treharris showed their mettle to beat a very good Pentyrch side. It was the boot of the ever reliable Ross Jones that was the difference in the first half kicking 15 points. The Treharris forwards took the game to Pentyrch and the resulting pressure saw the visitors penalised for a range of offences. There were some outstanding individual performances and it was a difficult choice for the coaches between Paul Pud Lee and Barry John Gwynne for man of the match.

Pentyrch narrowed the score with two penalties of their own to make the half time score:

 Treharris 15 Pentyrch 6

The backs saw a change in their line up with the ever present Cory Lloyd suffering a knee injury. Daniel O’Neill stepped in to cover. The backs made their own impact on the game with Rhydian Jones tackling everything that came his way.

The first try of the afternoon was scored just into the second half with Barry John Gwynne crossing under the posts-Ross Jones converted. 22-6 Apologies to Barry John I didn’t get a photo of the try but you are in the photo gallery.

It was a lovely chip by scrum half Garin Thomas for Dale Evans to collect and score to put the game beyond Pentyrch-Ross Jones converted.

Pentyrch scored a try of their own which they converted: 29-13

It’s always nice to see Ben Jones there supporting the boys, he had a week off this week from his water, kicking tee and running the line duties. Keep up the good work Ben. Our water technician Patrick Meaney will be back next week from his Mexican adventures.

Man of the match-Barry John Gwynne

Final score: Treharris Phoenix RFC 29 Pentyrch RFC 13
