A large crowd turned out for this local derby and were not disappointed. Both teams playing some running rugby and both sets of forwards battled hard. Two tries within 5 minutes of each other in the second half for Treharris sealed the game but the home side made a spirited challenge late in the game.
Dale Evans opened the scoring for Treharris following a half way line break by the backs-Ross Jones converted 0-7
The first half saw both sides trying to gain territorial advantage with the result that both teams gave away penalties. Treharris edged it on penalty count with Ross Jones converting three with one penalty for Ynysowen.

A Ynysowen penalty in the opening minutes of the second half saw the home side narrow the score 9-16
The next 10 minutes sealed the outcome for Treharris with two excellent tries from the backs, Ross Jones opened up the Ynysowen defence with an unorthodox pass between his legs to the amusement of the crowd. Dale Evans and Stephen Parry crossed with Ross Jones converting both. 9-30
Ynysowen stepped up their game and started to narrow the margin with 2 penalties and a converted try to make the final score:
