Outstanding opening game for Treharris

It’s always difficult for teams to come away from Treherbert with a win but that’s what Treharris did. A gritty team performance saw the visitors win the important first game 3-20.

Treharris welcomed some new faces and some old players returning to the fold.

Ross Jones opened the scoring with an early penalty which enabled Treharris to stay in front from then until the final whistle.

It was Leon Rees who broke the Treherbert defensive line with some fancy footwork to put Andrew Llewellyn away between the posts for the visitors first try-Ross Jones converted. Treherbert 0 Treharris 10.

A long range penalty by Ross Jones saw Treharris go into the break with 13 points to no reply.

The home side got their first points with a penalty 10 minutes into the second half.

3-13

Treharris put some pressure on Treherbert in the latter stages of the game and were rewarded when Stephen Biggins powered his way over the try line following some great forward play. Ross Jones converted.

Final score: Treherbert 3 Treharris 20

Treharris welcomed some new faces to the club Glan Goodridge our new coach to work with Barry Morgan and our new Physio May Lee. Rhydian Jones has also joined the club in the centre.

It was also nice to see some old faces returning which made a big difference. Paul Pud Lee, Richard Ingram, Stephen Biggins, Jared Thomas, Scott Richards, Garin Thomas.

We cannot miss out our stalwarts of the club who turn up week after week and always put in a 100%: Corey Lloyd, Barry John Gwynne, Ross Jones, Jamie Evans, Ricky Allsopp, Rhys Davies (prop), Rhys Davies (scrum half), Andrew Llewellyn, Craig Yoxall, Stephen Hopkins, Dale Evans, Leon Rees.

A special mention is reserved for Badger who put in a performance which defies his age and I could not end with a mention for Tony Morgan and Patrick who is currently in Mexico confusing the natives. I know Stephen Richards you are away but you are not forgotten for the effort you put in.

I apologise for missing anybody out.

On a last note and because it’s the first game of the season I must mention the supporters who travel away and provide great support. Daniel O’Neill was watching the game and told everyone he wasn’t playing this season-we will give him a week. (That mention is for Ben Jones and Corey Lloyd)
